Senior Backend Developer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join the engineering team at Restart Technology, building custom web, mobile, and enterprise applications for clients across the GCC, North America, and Europe. You will design and build secure, scalable APIs and backend services, lead technical decisions within projects, and share your expertise with the wider team. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Cairo.

What you will do

  • - Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance, and scalable RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • - Design database schemas, write optimized queries, and manage migrations and performance tuning.
  • - Lead architectural and technical decisions within projects and choose the right solutions for each client's needs.
  • - Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices (SOLID, Clean Code) and conduct regular code reviews.
  • - Write automated tests (unit and integration) to ensure delivery quality and system stability.
  • - Integrate with external services such as payment gateways, third-party APIs, and ERP systems.
  • - Collaborate with frontend, mobile, design, and project management teams to deliver products on time.
  • - Monitor performance and security, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to CI/CD and monitoring setup.
  • - Mentor junior developers, share knowledge across the team, and document technical solutions.

What we are looking for

  • - 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience with a proven track record on real-world projects.
  • - Deep proficiency in at least one backend language such as PHP (Laravel), Node.js, or Python, with strong knowledge of OOP and design patterns.
  • - Strong experience designing, building, and documenting RESTful APIs.
  • - Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL), query optimization and indexing, plus familiarity with Redis or MongoDB.
  • - Good understanding of application security (authentication, authorization, OWASP) and data protection best practices.
  • - Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows (pull requests, code reviews) and working knowledge of Docker.
  • - Experience writing automated tests.
  • - Good communication skills, with the ability to work in a team and across multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • - Good English (reading, writing, and speaking) to work with technical documentation and international clients.
  • - Ability to work on-site from our Cairo office under the hybrid schedule.
  • - Nice to have: experience with cloud services (AWS / GCP / Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • - Nice to have: familiarity with microservices, distributed systems, and message queues.
  • - Nice to have: knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, and real-time applications.
  • - Nice to have: experience integrating with Odoo / ERP systems or working with clients in the GCC, European, or North American markets.
  • - Nice to have: experience providing technical oversight or leading a small team.
